Dear River Families,

This week in River we continued learning about the 7 continents on earth and researching more about each continent. Other centers this week included working with literacy matching cards (digraphs -ch, -sh, -th, -wh, -ph ),  defining fiction and non-fiction animals while listening to the story Magical Animals, and playing a dice rolling game to help differentiate b/d. The children continued working on puzzles of different countries and identifying which continent the country is on.  We also started learning about the human body and we will begin our big human body project next week during centers.

Math this week continued working on using the language ‘Greater than’ and ‘Fewer than’, while comparing objects. In our Being a Writer program, the children wrote stories about a time when someone helped them. They also wrote a non-fiction piece about an animal that they know. We have also been learning about Martin Luther King Jr. and were able to watch a video of him giving his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech.  Ask your child to tell you about the importance of this “Peace” movement. 

Next week the children will continue sharing about their night with Elmer the Elephant. We will also be extending our unit on physics and engineering by learning more about Newton’s Law.

Monday will be a non-academic day in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
