Happy Friday Aspen families!
This week, we have focused on color mixing. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, we mixed two primary colors to make the secondary colors of orange, green and purple. The last two days of the week, we mixed white with red to make pink and black with white to make grey. Before each daily circle time, the students guessed what color they thought the two colors would make when mixed and then mixed them with a paintbrush to discover the result.
We did a number of color mixing art activities, including red/yellow to make orange rain makers and color mixing shoes, which we painted and then punched holes in to lace with ribbon or string. The children hung their finished shoes in the kitchen and loft area.
We read a number of colorful books this week, including Bear Sees Colors by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman, I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin and Orange All Around Us and Pink All Around Us. In addition, on Friday, we read Oh the Places You Will Go by Dr. Seuss and mixed black and white to paint grey mountains or other places the kids wanted to go.
On Wednesday, we were treated with a visitor from the WOW Museum who taught the kids about the different properties of sound. The children were invited to play quiet and loud instruments and each child was able to make a stringed instrument out of a toilet paper roll and rubber bands to take home. Next week, we will explore various art mediums, such as finger painting and water colors.
