August 26

Good afternoon Cedar and Dogwood families,

This week Dogwood and Cedar learned or relearned the daily routines of the classrooms.  We specifically focused on how the loft is used, where to find work mats for work time, where the water bottles are stored, and how to get hats off the hooks.  The children marched, tip toed, and flew from one activity to another!

During small circle the children sang “The Thumbkins,” “The More We Get Together,” and one of the children’s favorites “Zoom, Zoom, Zoom.”  The children practiced greeting one another with high fives, saying “Hi” or “Hello,” and using each other’s names.

The children read books associated with sharing and going to school, such as Llama Llama Misses Mama and I am Sharing.  The children also read some favorite titles, The Bear went over the Mountain and Down by the Station.

The children worked on their large motor skills while marching to “We are the Dinosaurs” and “The Ants go Marching.”  The children tried some yoga poses and rolled balls back and forth.  On Friday the classes enjoyed P.E. with Ms. Kira!  The children walked on tight ropes and lily pads.  They also worked on galloping, flying, and running during the warm up song.

Practical life skills were used when children practiced washing hands, greeting one another, and pouring small balls between two cups.

During art the children explored finger painting with classical music as a guide.  The children used bingo dabbers and crayons at the easel.

The children explored with play dough and flower petals in the sensory table.

During music with Ms. Kathleen the children danced with scarves, sang into a microphone, and kept a beat with rhythm sticks.  Ms. Kathleen also had safari and barnyard animal sounds for the children to listen to.
