Good afternoon Evergreen families!
This week in Evergreen the children explored the classroom, and were introduced to new routines, that teach them to care for themselves, each other, and their learning materials. The children practiced setting their own dishes at the table for lunch, carrying one thing at a time, and moving slowly through the classroom. The children’s morning work period, walking in the classroom, and running on the playground helps the children develop spatial awareness and respect for each other’s space.
The children have been excited to showcase their “best work”, and are very focused on trying everything. Favorite activities this week have been riding bikes and running laps around the playground. Some children have become excited about storytelling using the Hungry Caterpillar story props, while others explore gravity with the ramps and balls.
If for some reason you are unable to connect with a teacher in the morning or afternoon, you can write in the parent communication notebook, located at the classroom sign in shelf. Teachers check this daily, and will follow up.
The Evergreen classroom does not use cubby notes. We encourage the children to tell you about their day. The white board near the main classroom door will hold points of interest, experienced throughout the day. If there is an N next to your child’s name on the sign in/out sheet, this indicates that your child has taken a nap. Most children currently sleeping, are sleeping between an hour and one hour and forty-five minutes. If your child has a bathroom accident during the day, there is a “soiled clothes” box on top of the first cubby, as you enter the classroom. A post-it note is placed on the outside of the box, indicating who has clothing in the box. Your child’s name is on his/her bag, inside the box.
