Dear River Families,

This week in River we continued learning about space and performed our space mini-play to two different groups in the Forest room! The children did a fantastic job memorizing their lines, working together to recite the lines and color the planets. This was a success, ask your child about their planet! We also reviewed sight words and had a super sight word challenge! In this challenge, a would say a sight words and the children would do their best to write the sight word! I picked a few words that the children are familiar with from our message of the day. Every morning the children repetitiously write, “We are going to ___”, and I change the last part daily. Centers this week included listening to a story on tape and illustrating a scene, completing a space book, and meeting with me for t-z handwriting and letter chants. Math this week focused on writing numbers and practicing using our resources to identify numbers.

Ms. Charlotte continued working with the students during peace lessons on kindness to others and letting our love lights shine. The children are learning to identify when they are walking along the red road of peace and when they are walking along to dark road of difficulties and challenges. The children participated with a group in conversation cards. In this activity, the children look at a picture and predict what happened before and what will happen after. We had our first fire drill of the year on Thursday! I assured all of the children that this is just for practice and we discussed what to do in case of an emergency. Buddy reading and S.Q.I.R.T (Sustained Quiet Independent Reading Time), are becoming more successful each week! Your child may receive 1-2 books to read over the weekend. Please make sure that you sign and document the book on the reading log.  On Thursday we welcomed the first day of fall and we will start a unit on seasons and apples next week! Ms. Kira returns on Tuesday and we are looking forward to having her back!

Sincerely,

Ms. Stephanie
