October 7

Good afternoon Evergreen families!

This week in Evergreen the children welcomed the fall season. They explored leaves outside, and watched the trees; discovering that every day there are more leaves changing color and falling. The children examined leaves in science. They learned about the veins in the leaves, how leaves make food from the sun, and why leaves change color in the fall (less water and sunlight). The children practiced fine motor skills, coordination, and worked on hand strength making leaf rubbings.

The children noticed that the clothing they wear has changed in the last week. There are less days of shorts and t-shirts, and more days of long pants and jackets. We had a discussion about how the weather changes as the seasons move from summer to fall, and how some days start chilly and get warmer when the sun is out.

The boys and girls learned about fall through music and movement. They sang songs about animals preparing for winter, and pretended to be wind or leaves falling from the trees. In art, the children made sun catchers with tissue paper and contact paper.

This week the children practiced working in pairs (Buddy Up) during our social/emotional group time. The boys and girls played I Spy, Simon Says, linked arms and moved with their buddy, and tried keeping the ball in the air as they passed it. Next week we will focus on inclusion of others, and sharing unique skills.

Evergreen conferences are scheduled for October 17 and 18. If you haven’t signed up yet, there are a few spots left on the sign-up sheet, located in the front pocket of the sign-in folder.

Have a wonderful weekend!

The Evergreen Team,

Ms. Riann, Ms. Lindsey, Ms. Suzan, Ms. Becky, and Ms. Suzanne
