Good afternoon Birch families,
This week, the Birch class focused their attention on yoga and calming activities. As a group, the class learned the yoga poses “cat-cow”, “tree”, “butterfly”, “happy child” and “warrior”. The class collected rocks on a nature walk and then painted them while listening to relaxing music. The children also practiced taking deep breaths when they felt upset.
During small circle, the Birch class sang along to “The Dump Truck” and learned a new Good Morning song. The children also listened along to the books Little Dinos Don’t Yell, Hands are not for Hitting and Little Monkey Calms Down.
During music with Ms. Kathleen, the children danced with scarves, created music using rhythm sticks and shaker eggs, practiced keeping the rhythm on a drum and listened to different animal sounds.
Practical life skills continued to grow by washing baby dolls in the sensory table, working on the teddy bear matching game, scooping and pouring stars at the table and remembering to use only one pump of soap when washing hands.
The children continued to work on their large motor skills by walking on tip-toes, jumping across stepping stones, climbing up the “rock wall” outside and log rolling on the grass.
During P. E. with Ms. Kira the class played “Red Leaf, Red Leaf”, practiced balancing on bubble steps, played “Ring Around the Rosie” and imitated animal actions.
Next week the Birch class will be turning their attention to apples and pumpkins!
Have a relaxing weekend!
