October 21

Good afternoon Dogwood families,

This week Dogwood and Cedar learned about fall colors.  The children read Orange, A Rainbow of my Own, Good-Bye Summer, Hello Fall, I Know It’s Autumn, and a favorite; I Love Fall.  The children sang and danced to “The Seasons Song” by Talking Hands Talking Feet.  The song talks about what nature does and what colors are prevalent for each season.  The children enjoyed acting out sleeping, growing, and falling.  The children also sang some favorites such as “Twinkle, Twinkle Traffic Light” and “Five Little Pumpkins.”  The children learned a new song called “What Color are you Wearing?” During art the children made leaf drawings, mixed watercolors, and made fall color collages.

The children worked on their large motor skills when walking on the wooden balance beam outside, doing yoga, bouncing balls, and playing “Red Light, Green Light.”  During P.E. with Ms. Kira the children walked a curvy path on lily pads and threw bean bags.

Practical life skills were used when children worked on matching, used shape sorters, practiced pouring water, and squeezing washcloths.  The children also worked on using tweezers to grab various small objects including flower petals.

The children explored with soapy water and flowers in the sensory table.

During music with Ms. Kathleen the children sang many of their favorite songs such as “La Crocodilla,” “The Wheels on the Bus,” and “Baa, Baa Black Sheep.”  The children played bells and sang “This Little Light of Mine.”  The children also listened to animal sounds, danced with scarves, and played a drum.

Have a great weekend!
