November 11

Good afternoon Cedar families,

This week in Cedar we learned about extended families!  The children learned a finger play called “The Family” and some songs about grandparents sung to familiar tunes.  The children also sang “The Thumbkins,” and “Grandma’s Glasses.”  The children read You are the Best Present, Are you my Mother?, I Love You, Grandpa, and Baby Penguins Love their Mama!

The children worked on their large motor skills when trying new yoga moves such as child’s pose and doing the old favorite downward dog.  The children used all their muscles to try to push the wall away, balanced on the wooden beam outside, and played “Ring around the Rosie.”

Practical life skills were used when the children worked on rolling their sleeves to wash their hands, continued working on flipping their jackets (the children are getting so good at this), and squeezing washcloths to wring all the water out.  The children also worked with peg boards and shape sorters.

During art the children painted with their feet!  The children also made handprint cards and turkeys, used foam paint, and painted with rollers.

During music with Ms.Kathleen the children danced with scarves to “The Grand Ole Duke of York.”  The children played bells while they sang “Skidamarink.”  The children also listened to owl sounds and sang their favorite songs.
