November 11

This week in Forest we explored our Treehouse big idea of North American cultures and traditions. We read about Native American customs during literacy and explored different arts through authentic blankets, jewelry, and pottery! We will continue to explore this theme throughout November, especially as we approach Thanksgiving. Over the next few weeks we will also discuss gratitude and how we can practice gratitude in the classroom and at home.

Forest children also continued their play theme of Grocery Store this week. During their play, children took on the roles of workers and customers to make the grocery store run smoothly. Children practiced picking out fruit and vegetables in Produce, decorating desserts in the Bakery, making sandwiches in the Deli, creating bouquets in the Flower Shop, ordering medicine at the Pharmacy, and scanning items in the Checkout. Forest children are learning and implementing new vocabulary as they take on these new roles and pretend to be someone else! We will continue this theme next week as we add in props and help children develop their play through new scenarios.

Next week we will read and discuss the children’s book Some Friends to Feed as we talk about friendship and being grateful for everything we have. On Wednesday, the class will work together to cut vegetables to make Stone Soup as seen in the book! Every child is asked to bring in an item on Monday to add to the Stone Soup.  We will all enjoy eating the Stone Soup for lunch on Thursday.

Have a fantastic weekend!
