Hello Aspen Families! We have had quite a busy week enjoying stone soup, Beth Eply and the snow.

This week in Aspen we engaged in activities which increased our vocabulary and language skills. During group time, children used whisper phones to describe what see when looking at different images. Aspen discussed estimation; they then estimated or guessed how many bears were in each jar. As a group Aspen made their own “stone soup” and played find the missing letter. In art, children used letter stickers to match letters on paper, created family pictures, made paper plate stone soup and used stamps. This week we read books about family, sense of self and community. We read: You Belong Here, 8 Animals on The Town, I’m Like You – You’re Like Me and Jonathan James and the What If Monster (a class favorite)

During work period children engaged in washing dishes, floam and snow. We had a great performance by Beth Eply. Children danced and sang with our school community. Beth Eply even told a beautiful story about the real Thanksgiving!  Aspen children are making much progress with self-regulation and self-help skills. Aspen children can roll their rugs, clean up their spills, tuck in their chairs and put on their coats with very little assistance.

Music: We are continuing to practice for our love and light performance.

P.E: Children played ring-around-the-rosie and danced to animal actions. They raced like animals and had fun playing with Ms. Kira!

Literacy: Children enjoyed a game of, “I Spy” using new objects. Aspen also worked on alliteration with Ms. Charlotte. Each child used the first letter in their name to match to an object which started with the same letter sound.

High scope: This week our high scope activity was bowling and bean bags. The objective is for children to knock down as many pins as they can with the bean bag. They are then encouraged to count how many pins are knocked down and how many are left. As more pins are knocked down children engage in simple subtraction!

A few reminders: Please bring in snow attire and please remember to check your child’s art folder!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Ms. Candice, Ms. Kate, Ms. Megan, Ms. Claire
