Dear River Families,
This week in Kindergarten, we continued our author study on Jan Brett! We compared Jan Brett’s illustrations to illustrations in other books and identified characteristics of her work. We watched a video about Jan Brett and a tutorial from Jan Brett on how she draws a hedgehog! We read many Jan Brett books including: “The Hat,” “The Mitted”, “Gingerbread Baby”, and “Gingerbread Friends”. We received a gift of new literacy activities from Ms. Patti on Monday and we presented a gift to Dogwood of hand puppets on Tuesday! The children enjoyed leading big circle and presenting this gift to the toddlers in Dogwood. We continued working on holiday gifts for families that will be taken home next week!
Centers this week included completing writing and artwork for books we are making, making a Jan Brett mini-book and completing two journals about the spirit of giving. In our Jr. Great Books we read, “Coyote Rides the Sun”, and completed response writings and artwork. We continued studying celebrations around the world and drew similarities and differences between all of the different celebrations around the world in December. For example, almost all of the celebrations we discussed included light, the winter solstices , giving to others and family traditions. Math this week introduced geometry and the children have begun to identify 3-demensional shapes.
The children were very proud of their performance of Light and Love on Tuesday! Next week we will celebrate Saint Lucia on Tuesday. Academic break (following BVSD) the week of 12/19- 12/23. Treehouse is closed 12/26- 1/2. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Kira
