Music – December 16, 2016

Dear Parents,

First I would like to thank all of you who attended out annual Light and Love Concerts. I think these four concerts were among the best we have ever had! Your children did the best singing ever! In these very divisive times I think we all benefit from every opportunity to build community. I have never been more aware of our Treehouse community than this year. Thank you.

As you can imagine (and perhaps heard), we have been very busy over the last month learning about various holiday traditions and songs. It is always fun to hear back from the children which of these traditions they are familiar with. As they have finished their Light and Love concerts we have been spending a lot of time with the Nutcracker in both story and music. Earlier in the fall our emphasis

was on games and activities that build an internal sense of rhythm and also build social skills.

As we look forward to the winter season I like to plan activities that make these cold and often wet months more exciting. For cold and wet days we will be doing movement activities that involve gross motor skills to help get the wiggles out. We will be studying composers in January and instrument families in February. These two units are often the years most fun for the children and for me.

As always, if you have any suggestions, questions or comments I look forward to hearing from you.

Miss Kathleen
