Hello Aspen families,

This week in Aspen we focused on amazing bodies, germs and mammals. During our large group lessons, children begin to identify different mammals using picture cards. We discussed the attributes of mammals how they differ from reptiles and amphibians. We also discussed parts of the face, germs and bones in the body.

 This week children also worked on matching and singing about shapes. They are beginning to match shapes in the environment to our shape song. As a group, children also created a Skelton of the body using Q-Tips. They then worked on spatial awareness skills as they used facial attributes to create a group paper face.

Aspen read many books this week to introduce these concepts of the body, shapes and mammals. Some of these books included: Parts, Is Your Mama a Lama, Whose Animal Feet Are These and Who’s Tail is This? Children also enjoyed spending their work period exploring new activities. They worked with oil timers, sensory bags, cooking “new” food and coin box. On Friday, we enjoyed the Evergreen playground.

Literacy: Aspen read the book: The Big Hungry Caterpillar and played “I Spy” with objects from the book with Ms. Charlotte.

Music: During Music Aspen danced with scarves to Akin Drum, made music with shaker eggs and played the drum to the beat.

P.E: Today we played in the obstacle course and the children really had a blast. We then danced to bop till you drop. P.E was very eventful this Friday.

High Scope: This week we played a game roll the dice. Children rolled the dice and they moved their body (jumping, push-ups, spins) to that amount. This was a great way to practice route counting!
