January 20

Dear River Families,

This week in Kindergarten we continued working on our world maps and we started the human body project! Each child was traced on a large piece of paper and we studied brain, lungs, heart, stomach and intestines. The children will continue labeling and arranging the part of the body and these will be finished next week! This week we focused on Martin Luther King Jr. and studied his message of peace and equality. The children completed a peaceful thought writing and a MLK Jr. mini book.

In math this we finished our unit on geometry and began a unit on patterns. The children recognized patterns, completed their own patterns and worked on complicated patterns.  We introduced new sight words and reviewed the old sight words as a refresher from winter break. In peace lessons this week, Ms. Charlotte did a special lesson on MLK Jr in which the children experienced unfair treatment and could reflect on why we judge people by what is on the inside not the outside. We introduced the peace corner this week in which the children can identify their feelings and work out any conflict.

Next week we continue sharing Elmer! We had our 90th day of school this week and are approaching the 100th day! If you are interested in volunteering for a 100’s day celebration, please let me know. We have a, “Young Inventors”, workshop with the Wow! Museum next week!  Thank you for bring back Elmer the following day you receive him and for taking the time to log onto the website to read this message!

Sincerely,

Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Kira
