Good afternoon Dogwood families,
This week the Dogwood and Cedar children learned about winter animals. The children discussed which animals are out in the winter and what they do. The children sang songs such as “Are you Sleeping?” and “The Bears go Marching.” The children read books about winter animals such as All About Animals in the Winter, Sadie and the Snowman, I am a Bunny, and The Itsy Bitsy Snowman.
The children worked on their large motor skills when bear crawling, marching to music, and throwing bean bags into a basket. During P.E., the children worked on following the straight path of a rope which the teachers refer to as tight rope walking.
This week’s practical life lessons were focused on independence in the classroom routine. The children practiced pushing their chairs in when they were finished at the table. The children also practiced taking off their boots near the door so as not to track snow across the classroom. Then the children practiced hanging their coats on their hook.
The children explored with stamp pads while making penguin footprints. The children also used brushes to paint with brown and used their finger to paint white polar bears. The children explored playdough and made owls out of handprints.
During music with Ms. Kathleen the children listened to animal sounds! They also galloped like horses, played a drum, and used shaker eggs.
