Hello Garden and Mountain Families.
This week we started our theme of ‘The Ocean.’ We read Under the Sea, Shamu’s Secrets of the Sea, Splash!, The Ocean Alphabet Book, and Slide-and-See Under the Sea. The children have seemed to enjoy looking at all the different sea creatures and colors. There are so many different shapes and colors on the pages of the books to talk about. The children have also enjoyed watching us making a ‘fish face’ and trying to do it themselves, as well. It’s fun to see them making discoveries about their bodies.
Since it has been a bit too cold to get outside, the Mountain children were busy with art projects instead. They worked together and finger-painted an “ocean” on a large piece of butcher paper. They stamped their hands to make crabs, painted with different colors to make fish, and colored paper plate whales with paint crayons. The classroom is filling up with all different sea creatures.
The Mountain children have also been working hard at using their spoons to eat. We had apple sauce and yogurt this week, and encouraged the children to use their spoons instead of their hands. They still make quite a mess, of course, but it’s great practice! They have also been very helpful with throwing their trash away and cleaning up after meals.
Have a wonderful weekend!
