February 3

Hello Garden and Mountain Families.

This week we concluded our theme of ‘The Ocean.’ The activity that seemed to be most popular this week was exploring sea foam. We made a mix of water, dish soap, and a little cornstarch in the sensory table and the children had a blast with it. They splashed, played with the foam in their hands, and laughed together. It was such a fun and easy sensory activity that is easy to do at home, as well. You can even add a bit of food coloring to make the foam different colors.

We also read Underwater Life, Lift-and-Look Under the Sea, Planet Ocean, 1,2,3 in the Sea, and Sea Animals. The children seem to really enjoy looking at the pictures of all the different sea creatures and colorful coral. Some of them have even picked up on making a dolphin noise and a fish face. The older children have also started doing the actions to the song “Slippery Fish.” They think this song is so funny.

The Mountain children also added quite a bit of art work to our class ocean. They made jellyfish by placing tissue paper onto contact paper, painted starfish with chubby markers, glued green paper onto paper plates to make turtles, and painted with a spiky ball to make blowfish.

Have a wonderful weekend!
