Dear River Families,
We had a busy week in Kindergarten as we welcomed the month of February! We celebrated Chinese New Year and the year of the rooster by making wishes for the new year, creating a dragon, doing a dragon dance and making Chinese lanterns to celebrate. The children received red envelopes with a penny inside and were given a lesson on a beautiful tea set from China. We learned facts about Groundhogs and celebrated our 100th day on Friday! Centers this week included making 100 tally’s, completing the 100 board, listening to a 100 day story and writing in journals! The children did many writing activities about things they can eat 100 of and what they would buy if that had $100!
In Jr. Great Books this week, the children read a story about fairness and hard work named, “Guinea Fowl and Rabbit Get Justice”. The children enjoyed deciding if both characters in the story got justice or not. Math this week introduced the idea of shorter and longer as we enter a unit on measurement. 100 project shares have been a success and we are looking forward to seeing what everyone will bring in the weeks to follow!
Please follow Treehouse policy sent out in the parent notes for Valentines Day! Next week as a center, the children will get a checklist with each child’s name and will work on creating a letter, note or valentine art for each child. We start our unit on mail and these valentines will go in the classroom “mailbox” and handed out to each child on Feb. 14! Please feel free to ask if you have any questions. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Ms. Stephanie
