Good afternoon Evergreen families!

This week in Evergreen, the children celebrated love and kindness, as they spent the week creating Valentine cards for people they love. They practiced writing their own messages on the cards, helped friends write messages, and creatively explored many different ways to decorate their cards.

In music class, Ms. Kathleen brought a special guest to teach the children about brass and woodwind instruments. She gave a demonstration of the trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, and two wooden flutes. The children learned how to press and vibrate their lips, and took turns trying to make music with the trumpet. They explored the valves on the saxophone as our guest played, and discovered the changing sounds.

This week, our social/emotional meet-up is teaching us about how to listen. The children took turns answering why it is important to listen to others, and our Z story taught us how to listen with our whole body (make eye contact, listen carefully and quietly, and don’t interrupt). During discussion the children listed things that make it hard to listen, like when other people talk out of turn, or when they are distracted by things they see around them. The children helped each other identify strategies to use if they forget to listen, or couldn’t hear or understand what someone said.

Next week, we will finish up our theme on celebrating differences, and carry with us many new skills in accepting other people.

Have a wonderful weekend!

The Evergreen Team,

Ms. Riann, Ms. Lindsey, Ms. Becky, Ms. Suzan, and Ms. Meghan
