March 10

Hello Aspen families!

This week in aspen our focus has been exercise and talking about three ways we keep ourselves healthy. Healthy food, sleep and exercise.  The children choose from a bag of mystery exercises and attempted to move their bodies in this way. Aspen worked on the balance beam using positional words like under, over, behind and in front. They also used the balance beam to work on core muscles as they moved their body in various.

During small group/work period children engaged in art, practical life and sensory activities. Children created their own exercise picture sticks to practice at home. Aspen worked on sweeping rice, molding clay in the sensory table as well as sweeping the floor. Children also practiced zipping, and pouring skills. They have also enjoyed cleaning chairs, table and the easel.

This week we engaged in many large motor activities. Children moved to the bear hunt and the stretching song. Children engaged in games outside with the parachute and tunnels. On Friday Beth Epley joined us and we had a dance party!

For our reading choices, we choose books that integrate healthy choices. Aspen read: Monster Park while discussing each physical activity on each page, Maxwell the Monkey Barber and moved like each animal, Heggie’s Surprise while discussing healthy foods and The Vegetables We Eat.

Spanish: Reviewed animals, counting to 20, vowels sounds and family roles.

Music: Children worked with shaker eggs, listened to bird sounds and learned a black bird song. Children danced with scarves, played with cymbals and jingle bells.

High scope: Shape color hopscotch.

Literacy: Listened to itsy, bitsy spider, discussed rhyming words and proper literacy etiquette.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Ms. Candice, Ms. Kate, Ms. Megan and Ms. Claire
