March 10

Good afternoon Cedar families,

This week the children learned about nutrition. Each classroom has fruits and vegetables in the kitchen area, as well as Velcro fruits and vegetables for the children to practice cutting.  The children labeled these foods and discussed their taste, color, etc.  The children read books about eating healthy foods such as Eating the Alphabet which listed multiple fruits and vegetables for each letter.  The children also read Yum!, Healthy Me, and Orange.  The children sang “I Like to Eat Apples and Bananas”, “If all of the Raindrops…” and “Go Bananas!”

The children worked on their large motor skills when doing yoga, some of the children even figured out how to move from Downward Dog to a plank position.  The children also balanced on the wood beam outside and played “Ring around the Rosie.”  During P.E. with Ms. Kira, the children walked a zig-zag path on lily pads.

Practical life skills were used when the children washed the fruits and vegetables in the water table.  The children also worked on scooping small turtles and transferring water between cups.

During art, the children stamped with fruit and vegetable stamps and painted with green, since many healthy vegetables are green.

The children explored with wood chips and animals in the sensory table as well as soapy water.

During music with Ms. Kathleen the children played shaker eggs and cymbals.  The children also listened to bird sounds since Spring is right around the corner.

Happy 2nd Birthday to Katie!  Enjoy your weekend!
