Good afternoon Evergreen families!
This week in Evergreen the children learned a variety of ways to stay healthy with movement. They practiced soccer goals outside, and coordinated their bodies to move soccer balls with their feet. The children played Duck, Duck, Goose, ran races, and moved through obstacle courses. There are movement pictures all around the classroom, and the children have been practicing putting their bodies in different movement positions.
What makes a food healthy or unhealthy? Healthy quote of the week from the children is, “Treats like cookies and cake are not healthy, and we can only have one treat after we eat a healthy dinner.” We have read several books this week that are teaching the children about why it is important to “eat a rainbow”. Strawberries, carrots, lemons, green beans, blueberries, and purple cabbage are some of the foods we have seen in our books. As the children become a bit more adventurous in trying new foods, they are starting to recognize many different foods in their lunch at school, and discovering how tasty a rainbow can be.
Math lessons this week are teaching the children to plan, organize, draw, and write. The children went grocery shopping, drew the foods they chose at the store, and practiced writing the number of how many food items they had. The children also practiced sorting, first by color, then they sorted the objects.
Our social/emotional meet-ups are teaching the children to compromise and work as a team. What do you do when you’re working in a group, and everyone wants to do something different? The children have been practicing voicing their wants, and figuring out how to work as a team, so everyone is happy with part of the outcome. We are practicing this in the classroom, on the playground, and even at the lunch table.
Next week we will expand this learning with more movement opportunities, sorting foods, and a shopping obstacle course!
Have a great weekend!
