Hello Garden and Mountain Families.
This week we focused on a theme of ‘bugs.’ The children looked at pictures in books of all types of insects and arachnids. They seemed to really enjoy the butterflies, spiders, ladybugs, ants, and bees. We talked about the colors of the bugs, counted ladybug spots and legs, and made buzzing sounds.
We read Hello, Bugs, The Big Bug Search, A Picture Book of Insects, and Itsy-Bitsy I Love You. We sang “The Ants Go Marching,” “Bringing Home a Baby Bumblebee,” and the “The Itsy-Bitsy Spider.” With “The Itsy-Bitsy Spider,” we added on a couple of our own verses, including: the great, big, hairy spider and the teeny-weeny spider. For these verses, we sang the song in deeper or higher tones, which the children seemed to think was very funny.
The children also tried out some baby yoga this week. We focused on the ‘butterfly pose,’ which is sitting on your bottom with your legs bent and the bottom of your feet touching. We would demonstrate for the children and then help them get their bodies in the right position. Another fun activity was touching and smelling some flowers on a buggy ride.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
