April 21

Good afternoon Cedar families,

This week the children learned about the earth and discussed how to care for it to celebrate Earth Day.  During small circle the children sang “You are my Sunshine,” “If all of the Raindrops,” “Mr. Golden Sun,” and “Mr. Moon.”  The children read The Feel Good Book, I Stink!, The Bear went over the Mountain, and Spring is Here.

The children worked on their large motor skills when kicking balls, jumping into the grass, and running.  The children played “Ring around the Rosie” which combines cooperative and gross motor play.  During P.E. with Ms. Kira, the children rolled balls and walked on the tight rope.  The tight rope helps children learn the balance needed to walk on a small space while also giving them the confidence to try because they do not run the risk of injury should their foot slip.

Practical life skills were used when the children matched colors using rings and pegs.  The children also sorted farm animals, scooped small objects, and practiced washing the table.

During art, the children explored with sand and paint, and watercolors.  The children made blue, green, gold, and brown Earth Day paintings.  The children explored with textured fabric and colored water in the sensory table.

During music with Ms. Kathleen the children played shaker eggs, danced with scarves to “Old King Cole,” and sang traditional nursery rhymes.

We hope you all have a great weekend and Happy Earth Day!

Ms. Amy, Ms. Delani, Ms. Delanie, Ms. Stevie, and Ms. Piper
