Good Afternoon Forest Families!

This week in Forest children played in their new transportation centers. We built props for a bike shop and a boat dock with children creating signs, props, and uniforms to use in their play. Children took new roles as they worked in the train station, airport, mechanic, and car wash as well. As children play and problem solve together we talk about different situations that arise in all the centers: what happens if the car wash is broken? What happens if there isn’t a worker at the mechanic? What do you do if the train is late to the station? As these problems occur children work together to fix them.

In Literacy, children practiced their letter and number formation through graphics practice. Forest children have also been practicing sounding out one syllable words through wordplay games. In our read-alouds this week, children practiced making predictions based on text and pictures they had already seen.

In Math and Science, children explored seeds and discussed planting. Groups of children examined different types of seeds and took note of how they looked, smelled, and felt to the touch. Children talked about what seeds need to grow and how it’s different than what humans need to grow.

Next week we continue our play theme of transportation and watch our seeds as they begin to sprout! Parent teacher conferences are also next week!
