Dear River Families,
This week in River we celebrated earth! The children discussed how they can do their part in keeping earth clean and celebrating earth day, every day! We went on an earth day nature walk and checked items off a list that we found. We also assessed how our neighborhood is doing with littering and keeping the community clean. The children made a mini book about recycling and garbage. Centers this week included defining earth day words (ex. compost, recycle, pollution) and discussing how we can reduce and reuse.
This week in math we began subtraction. We defined math vocabulary (ex. take away, cross out, subtract, minus) and acted as animals to visualize subtraction story problems. The children learned about verbs and discussed actions that they can do! They completed a Being a Writer describing something that they like to do. We completed our last Jr. Great Book Volume 3 this week! The last section of the Jr. Great Book focused on analyzing and writing poems. We began a unit on telling time and used clocks to distinguish and write different times. We continued to explore wood and paper by answering questions about the properties of wood.
Ms. Susan is looking forward to the fiesta on 5/5 from 4:00- 5:00 at Treehouse where the children will play jeopardy and sing songs to demonstrate what they have learned over their years at Treehouse! Our next and final field trip will be to the Wow! Museum on 5/18. The children will pack a lunch, partake in a workshop on wind and explore the museum! I would love to have one more parent volunteer for to join us. I am looking forward to seeing all of you next week for conferences.
Have a great weekend,
Stephanie and Kira
