May 5

Dear River Families,

This week in River we continued studying money and time! The children have been working on addition and subtraction with numbers 1-20 and number families (ex. 6 + 4=10, 4 + 6 =10, 10 – 4 =6, 10- 6 =4). We did a special review lesson on making and counting tally marks! The children continued working with Ms. Kathleen on the metallophones in preparation for graduation. Ms. Susan and the children are excited for the Fiesta this Friday 5/5 from 4:00-5:00 so that they can show off what they have learned in Spanish this year!

Centers this week included writing about friendships memories from the year and identifying characteristics we like in our friends. The children have discussed and defined different words that describe a good friend.  Some of the words they came up with include; fun, kind, trustworthy, honest, safe, patient, loving and more! In centers we talked more about Spring, listened to, “Ladybug Orchard”, and completed a weekly reader about lady bugs. Our last center focused on how much each coin is worth and counting by 5’s and 10’s to reach 100 cents= 1 dollar.

In P.E the children were introduced to tossing and catching using velcro paddles and tennis balls.  Over the next few weeks we will do many games, relays and obstacle courses outside! In Peace lesson, Ms. Charlotte and the children reflected on their favorites peace lessons this year and created a peace mural.  We are looking forward to enjoying muffins with mom in the morning on 5/11! Our field trip to the Wow! Museum on 5/18 requires a sack lunch, walking shoes, water bottle and backpack!

Have a great weekend,

Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Kira
