Hello Aspen families,

This week the children have been working hard at sorting! We talked about what it means to sort items and the kids observed differences between sorting groups, such as one group is the color green and another group is the color yellow.

In big circle we read the books Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Let’s Sort by Color, Autumn Orange, Splish, Splash and Blue and Camping in Green. They worked on sorting objects in Goldilocks from biggest to smallest, they went on a color scavenger hunt around the classroom, they sorted fruits and vegetables by color, they played the season sorting game and the elephant sorting game. For movement this week the children played shaped hop scotch and worked with a color matching bean bag toss. The kids worked on two art projects this week, using metallic bingo dabbers to paint on tracing paper and creating their own unique butterflies with paper, glue and markers. We were inspired to create our own butterflies after seeing butterflies and bugs with our visitor from the Butterfly Pavilion on Thursday! They were able to see crickets, butterflies and a tarantula and they got to pet a giant hissing cockroach. The children also learned about antennae and what bugs use them for.

In music this week the children marched, walked, and danced to the song Walk Together Children. Then they could request some of their favorite songs for Ms. Kathleen to sing and play on her guitar, including Twinkle Twinkle and Wheels on the Bus. Then on Thursday they buzzed around the room like bees, danced with scarves and listened to different bug sounds, like a cricket, a bee and a katydid.

For Spanish this week Ms. Susan continued to work with the children on greetings and identifying different types of transportation.

In PE this week the children each chose their own yoga card and together we all practiced each other’s yoga poses. They were also able to stretch to the stretching song and play freeze dance!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Ms. Kate and Ms. Megan
