Music Newsletter December 1, 2017

Dear Parents,

November is always a very busy month for music at Treehouse as we excitedly prepare for our Celebration of Light and Love programs.  While there are many old favorites that the children look forward to working on, this year we have added a few new surprises.  We are all looking forward to seeing you there.

We have spent quite a bit of time just celebrating the holidays as they have come along.  We sang several Halloween songs which included, Black Cat, Black Cat, Jack-o-lantern, 1 Little, Two Little, Three Little Witches, as well as several poems and chants.  Diwali was early this year, October 18, and we learned about this new year celebration and sang the Diwali Song.  We read and sang, “Over the River and Through the Woods,” for Thanksgiving, which was especially popular in the Birch classroom.  They are still requesting to hear this story with the accompanying sound effects.  For Hanukkah we read a story about the Dreidel and learned the popular children’s song.  They enjoyed taking turns spinning the dreidel.

Our movement activities have been to the music of the Nutcracker Ballet.  Several children have told me they have been to the ballet or have heard this music at home. I have two beautiful books telling the story of this ballet that I will be reading to the preschool through kindergarten children after their Light and Love performances.  The Mountain, Dogwood, Cedar, and Birch classrooms are also enjoying dancing to this music.

For the past several years we have invited musicians from Center for Musical Arts to share their talents and instruments with our preschool through kindergarten classes.  They are having a special holiday event for families of young children and I have included the information below.  It sounds really fun!
