Hello River Families.
Welcome back to Kindergarten and Happy New Year!
We are busy this month beginning new units on continents (maps, countries, puzzles) and the human body. We discussed that earth has land and water and the land masses are the seven continents. Over the next few months the children will study each continent as we lead to our Spring Performance! Being a Writer lessons this week included completing non-fiction writings about animals and our friends! We learned about Martin Luther King Jr. and studied his message of peace and equality. The children watched Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech, listened to a story about him, completed a journal of a fact about him and colored a portrait of Dr. King. Ms. Charlotte continued working with the children reading and acting out,” The Golden Rule” this week and next week we will begin the world map project.
This week in math we finished our unit on complex patterns and began a new unit on counting and comparing. We began the Dragon Series of our Jr. Great Books! The children listened to and responded to questions and discussions from the Brother Grimm, “The Frog Prince”. This week we introduced our new share, Elmer the Elephant. Each child will take Elmer home for the night and write an entry and draw a picture in Elmer’s journal! This is a Treehouse tradition and you can enjoy looking through many years of Treehouse Kindergarten journal entries.
Please be sure you log into the website to read the classroom message every week! It is imperative that you check the website as all Kindergarten news, information, and photos are posted to the website weekly. Thank you for taking to time to do this, especially as we move into the second part of the year with important information regarding field trips, the spring performance, weekly events and more. The children are in good hands as Ms. Kira and Ms. Lauren will be subbing for me Monday and Tuesday next week.
Have a great weekend,
Ms. Stephanie
