Dear River Families,
It was another busy week in Kindergarten! We began an artist study on Vincent Van Gogh this week! The children picked colors and associated them with different feelings as Van Gogh did. We learned more about his life and replicated a few of his famous works. On Thursday we had a workshop with the Arvada Center! The children use oil pastels and watercolor is create a piece of art inspired by Van Gogh’s, “Starry Night”. Centers this week included making a book about Van Gogh, finishing world maps and learning about our new mail center! This week in River we introduced a new unit on mail! We have a mailbox set up in our classroom and the children have been working hard on completing a letter or valentine for each child. The children use “stamps”, address their mail correctly, include a message and a picture for their mail to be approved to be sent! On Valentine’s Day next Wednesday, we will pass out all their hard work for them to enjoy! Please follow Treehouse policy sent out in the parent notes for Valentine’s Day!
We have been reviewing writing words beginning with the blends “tr” and “dr”. These can often be confused with “ch” (ex. train, trip as chain and chrip) and “jr” (ex. drive and drink as jrive and jrink). If you have more questions about this feel free to ask! We completed our math books this week! The children wrapped up their math books with a unit on weight (heavy vs light). Math books will come home today! There is a yellow unfinished section at the end of the math book to be completed at home.
We have a field trip on 2/22 to the Lafayette Library to begin working on our Spring Performance! The Spring Performance/Art Show will be held on April 12th. The children will spend the next two months working on this and I will provide more information soon about costume deadlines, themes and animal/character assignments.
Have a great weekend,
Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Lauren
