Hello Evergreen Families!
The children have continued to learn about communities, finishing the community center, adding to the fire station and park. In fact, this week a few students wanted oxygen tanks so they could “breath while putting out the fire” so we re-purposed a few items in the class and have oxygen tanks for our firefighters! The children are also being a pediatric nurse or doctor in the community center.
With the start of the Olympics, the class has discussed the Olympic Rings, sportsmanship and healthy eating. They class was very interested in “Eating Like an Olympian” where they have a plate and choose a balanced meal with the food groups. We also have been pretending to be Olympic ski jumpers, bobsledders and other athletes.
This week, the children were introduced to the letter “Gg,” both its name and sound and words like ghost, gorilla, glue, etc. Our friend Z continued to help give the children ideas about how their differences and similarities can be celebrated. We used the word “unique” this week in describing how we are each an individual. They also began working on a personalized rainbow to display how we each are different. In High Scope math, we continue the exploration of shapes, identifying and naming various shapes.
On Thursday we were treated to a special presentation about string instruments. Ms. Joy from the Center for Musical Arts brought in a several violins, a viola, and cello. The children had an opportunity to hear the instruments and also play them!
Have a great weekend,
Ms. Kristine, Ms. Meghan, and Ms. Kira
