Hello Aspen families,
It has been a short but busy week at Treehouse! This week we have been focusing on musical instruments. The children even had the opportunity to see, hear and play a variety of brass and woodwind instruments. The cold weather has kept us inside for most of the week but we have been staying active inside. Throughout the week the children worked with snow in the sensory table, scooping, squishing and making snowballs. They also worked with watercolor squirt bottles in a bucket of snow, and driving cars in snow! We also introduced a variety of new movement songs to the class, including “The Ladybug”, “Tip Toe”, and “The Color Song”. These songs are great fun for the children to move along to but also encourage movement specific to toddler and preschool physical and cognitive development. Finally we created a big body movement obstacle course across the classroom including jumping, crawling, and pushing a heavy box.
In circle this week we read the books Juke Box, Over in the Meadow, Finger Plays, and R is for Rocket. For our group time the children practiced counting to ten using their fingers, naming and recognizing instruments and listening to instrument sounds, and sorting letters and numbers. The xhildren worked hard this week painting and decorating two fire trucks which we introduced as a new work on Thursday. The High Scope activity the children worked with this week was number fish sorting, next week we will work on numeral hopscotch.
In Spanish this week Ms. Susan worked with the children on the animal vocabulary they have learned as well as throwing a ball to practice counting. And for music this week Ms. Kathleen brought two local musicians to show a variety of instruments to show the children. The kids were able to listen to a flute, piccolo, clarinet, trumpet, saxophone and French horn and they each had a chance to try playing the trumpet and pressing the keys on the flute and saxophone. It was wonderful to see the amazement in the children’s reactions to the sounds of the instruments in person.
Have a warm and wonderful weekend!
Ms. Kate, Ms. Megan, and Ms. Susie
