February 23

Dear River Families,

This week in Kindergarten we learned about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  The children completed a piece of art and we discussed negative and positive space in art.  We completed a weekly reader about the two presidents and continued learning about our country.  In our Jr. Great Books we have been reading and responding to poems about colors and nature. The children began completing activities in their new math books! We are working on number operations and have been using buttons as a counting manipulative.

It is officially time to start working on the spring performance! The spring art show (April  12) will feature a production by the River room about mountains around the world and animals in different continents. The children have started to study 11 animals and ranked their preferences on casting for the show. I will attach a list below of which animal your child has been assigned! We will be working on making a set, writing poems to be performed and creating head-dress style animal hats for their costumes in art class. Parents will be responsible for creating the body part of the costume and facilitating in the child memorizing their lines and poems. Please have the body of your costume at school by Tuesday, April 3rd. This do not have to be extravagant! For example; if your child is a crab, they could wear red leggings, a red shirt — the crab hat they will make here at school.

Please continue to check the website to stay informed and feel free to ask if you have any questions! Poems and script will be sent home in the middle of March to work on being memorized. Next week we will continue working on the spring performance and celebrate the great Dr. Seuss! 100 Day Shares continue next week! Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Lauren
