February 23

Dear Cedar families,

This week, Dogwood and Cedar learned more about musical instruments. Musicians Olga and Devon from the Center for Musical Arts visited Treehouse and gave a demonstration of the trumpet, French horn, clarinet, piccolo and flute. The children got to touch the instruments and sang while they played. They also listened to musical instruments sounds while looking at pictures of musical instruments.

During small circle, the children sang “Frosty the Snow Men”, “Baby Bumblebee”, “Hokey Pokey”, “The More We Get Together,” and read: Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes, Music of the Meadow, Snow friends, and Itsy-Bitsy Spider.

The children worked on their large motor muscles by dancing to “Ring Around the Rosie” while holding hands. They practiced new movements with the song “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” by “swimming” across a river, “climbing” a tree, and “rowing” a boat.

During art, the children explored drawing with wet chalk on black paper, and dipping cardboard cutouts into finger-paint to make prints on paper.  They enjoyed experimenting with soapy water in the sensory table, and worked on using washcloths to clean dishes and babies.

Have a great weekend!

Ms.Jessica, Ms.Brooke, Ms. Delanie, Ms. Delani, and Ms. Karen
