Hello Evergreen Families!
This week we wrapped up our discussion of diversity and what it means. We also spent the week studying and celebrating Dr. Seuss. In the Dr. Seuss book, The Sneetches, the children extended our study of diversity. In the story, some Sneetches have stars and believe they are better than the Sneetches without stars. The Sneetches without stars decide to start putting stars on themselves, causing the Sneetches with starts to remove theirs. Eventually, the Sneetches put on or take off their stars so many times, they can’t remember what group they belong to. They come to realize that Sneetches are Sneetches, regardless of how they look. The children discussed the story and how differences are ok, it is what makes us unique.
We incorporated our celebration of Dr. Seuss into literacy, math, science and art as well. The children studied rhyming words, made Cat in the Hat patterns, counted lines on Truffala trees, and made Oobleck. The letter Ss and it’s initial sound were introduced in writing. In High Scope math, the class continued their study of shapes by manipulating and naming different triangles. The Z story this week discussed how words are important and taught the class the importance of “speaking up and speaking kindly” when they have something to say.
Have a great weekend!
