Dear River Families,
This week in River we did our first read through of the spring performance script! They will be sent home next week to work on memorizing. The children have been working on writing poems about their animals using the facts they have researched. We have been exploring mountains around the world and began learning about simple machines this week! We will continue studying the lever, pulley, wheel and axel, screw, wedge and inclined plane this whole month! The children went on a hunt to identify simple machines and completed a book about how we use them.
This week in math we started a more challenging unit on combining numbers using 10 as a baseline. The children have been using unifix cubes to represent number bonds 11-20. The children used their 10 squares and counting bears to discover equations starting with 10 (ex. 10+_=?). In our Jr. Great book the children explored the tale of two mice one from the town and one from the country. The children did a compared and contrast of the two environments and learned that the, “grass isn’t always greener on the other side”.
We will work on memorizing the animal poems over the next month (along with the script it will be sent home). If you have any questions about the body part of the costume, please let me know! Again, we are creating headdresses for each animal here during art class! Next week we continued our community workers and leaders share. We began studying different jobs/professions and described what this person does, what materials or tools they use and where they work such as; mail carriers, police officer, doctor, farmer firefighter and mayor. Alternatively, they can choose a historical leader or figure such as a president or professional athlete. This share requires some research or “homework”. Please have your child draw a picture and write a sentence about who their choice is and why they are important.
Have a great weekend,
Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Lauren
