March 9

Dear Dogwood families,

This week Dogwood and Cedar learned more about exercise and explored what their bodies can do.

During small circle, the children danced to songs with movements, including the “Hokey Pokey”, “Zoom Zoom Zoom”, and “Head Shoulders Knees and Toes”. Our classes read Take a Deep Breath and When I am Feeling Angry, and we talked about feelings.

This week, the children enjoyed a fun activity with Hula Hoops. They worked on their large motor skills by jumping from one Hula Hoop to the other on the floor. They also got to explore by practicing rolling, shaking, and spinning Hula Hoops on their waist.

During morning work period the children were busy working on building towers with various toys such as the sensory tub, small wood blocks and large soft blocks.  We also had fun exploring with stamps, finger painting, and drawing with chalk on the sidewalk.

In music class, Ms. Kathleen brought interesting instruments to show the children – the triangle, tambourine, cymbal, and different kinds of shakers. The children were mesmerized with all the unique sounds from the instruments, and they took turns “playing” each one. So fun!
