We had a busy, fun week in the classroom learning about St. Patrick’s Day!
We read Irish folklore stories and discussed the many ways the world celebrates the holiday today through wearing green, Irish food, dance, and stories of mischievous leprechauns and their pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
This week in geography we discussed our great state of Colorado.
Topics discussed:
- Plants and animals indigenous to Colorado
- Colorado landscapes from our Rocky Mountains to our grassy plains
- State capital and the neighbors that surround our state
- The Colorado gold rush that brought many pioneers to settle here
- Colorado sport teams
- Outdoor fun that attracts people from all over the world like skiing, hiking, rafting, camping, mountain biking, rock climbing and fishing
- The Colorado flag and what the colors of red, blue, yellow and white represent
- State bird, the Lark Bunting. State animal, the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep and state flower the Rocky Mountain Columbine
This week in Art the children learned about American artist Georgia O’ Keeffe. We learned that she was best known for her enlarged paintings of flowers, big sky paintings, desert landscapes, New York skyscrapers and the bones of cattle and deer. As a female artist, she was a pioneer in the art world for her modernism and capturing the beauty in nature.
A peek into next week – We will be learning about our 5 senses.
Have a great weekend!
