Hello Aspen families,
This has been such a fun week exploring the season of Spring. We discussed the four seasons and that winter is ending as spring is beginning. Throughout the week we also worked with the letter sounds /B/ and /S/ and talked about the life cycle of a seed. We all worked in pairs to start the bean seed experiment, where we wrapped beans in paper towels, wet them with water and hung them in the window to get sun. Next week we will check our beans to see if they have sprouted any roots!
This week in circle we read the books Who Likes Rain, The Fox and the Springtime Blossom, The Little Red Hen, The Life Cycle of the Bean, and Spring. In circle time we talked about different signs of spring that we can see; such as bugs, birds, baby animals, rain showers and flowers blossoming. The children were very enthusiastic about learning baby animal names, such as chick, duckling, calf, foal, lamb, puppy and kitten. On Friday we looked at carnations and discussed the different parts of the flower; the stem, the leaves, the bud, the flower and the petals. The kids also had the chance to touch, feel, and pull apart the flowers with their fingers and tweezers and then examined the petals and buds with a magnifying glass.
For art this week the children worked on open ended painting with bright spring colors and making shape flowers with shapes they are already familiar with such as squares, triangles, rectangles and circles. Activities this week included painting at the easel, cut and roll playdoh, fishing for colors, baby bubble baths and planting seeds.
In literacy this week Ms. Charlotte read the book Monkey’s Friend and talked with the children about rhyming words. In Spanish class this week Ms. Susan practiced the color song with the children and taught them some new spring vocabulary as well as practicing counting and colors. And in music this week Ms. Kathleen brought the book, Animal Exercise and a wonderful little bear puppet who all the kids sang songs with.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Ms. Kate, Ms. Megan, and Ms. Susie
