March 23

Dear River Families,

This week in River we welcomed the first day of spring! The children discussed spring changes and did a journal entry about the change of the season. We did our first run through of the Spring Performance! The children have been doing a fantastic job with memorizing their poems and lines. We had a special visit from Kristel Brown (Charlotte’s Mom) who did some amazing drama exercises to get the children comfortable on stage, moving their bodies, and speaking loud and clear for the Spring Performance. We will have another visit from her at the beginning of April. Thank you Kristel! Centers this week included wrapping up our unit on simple and complex machines. The children tested out the machines in a hands-on exploration activity followed by a reflection in their journals.

The children continued reading and reflecting on poems about “Companions”, in their Jr. Great Books. We began a unit on facts and the genre non-fiction. The children found non-fiction books in our classroom library and did a non-fiction writing for Being a Writer. Math this week included working with number bond 10+_=__ and using ten frames to visualize with counting manipulatives.  The children worked on number bonds and families. In Peace lesson Ms. Charlotte worked with the children to make peace rocks to use as a reminder to be peaceful!

We are finished with community shares and will begin our next share in April. Next week 3/26  is academic rest for Kindergarten spring break. Report cards and of the year conferences will be held Monday, April 30th. The sign-up sheet will be posted after Spring Break! Please bring your costumes to treehouse when we return from spring break, they are due by Tuesday April 3rd.  Picture day is Wednesday April 4th.  We got over 200 points reading for the Vaquitas! We have officially virtually adopted a Vaquita by donating money to conservation effort! Congrats Kindergarten! I have attached the website for you to check out.
