Hello Aspen families,
We hope you all enjoyed March Madness Spirit week! It was such fun to see the children dressed up each day and to see how much they enjoyed it. In Aspen this week we have continued talking about springtime and spring traditions. The kids have really been enjoying learning about and naming baby animals; we have added some pictures of lambs, chicks, bunnies and butterflies around the classroom.
In circle this week we read the books Four Seasons, Bear Sees Color, Wee Little Lamb, Seasons and Dirt! We counted the seasons and discussed a few signs of each season with a focus on signs of spring. We were able to go for a nature walk this week and saw a pair of ducks, flowers beginning to bloom and a bunny. It looks like spring is here! On Friday morning we checked on the seeds we planted last week, and they have begun to sprout. It is so exciting for the children to watch the seeds sprout and grow before their eyes. We also checked on the bean experiment we began last week, and those little guys are growing too. The kids were able to examine the roots and sprouts up close with magnifying glasses. The kids also worked on letter matching this week and identifying the letter sounds /H/ and /F/.
We introduced a few new works this week for the shelves, including a new bead threading activity, a fine motor work scooping stars and a stacking pyramid of magnifying lenses. In addition to these new works, we also had the easel, play doh and the sensory table open during work time throughout the week. There were materials available in the sensory table for the children to build their own bird’s nests, including shredded crinkle paper, twine and yarn.
In Spanish class this week Ms. Susan worked on transportation vocabulary, color names and the color song. And in music class this week Ms. Kathleen brought the book Driving My Tractor, which the children could listen to all day long! They also listened to farm animal sounds from the animals in the story. For PE this week we worked on some simple movement games, melting like a popsicle, popping like popcorn, and pretending to be a growing flower.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Ms. Kate, Ms. Megan and Ms. Susie
