Hello Evergreen Families!

This week we began a new unit on care of the earth.  The class discussed what it meant to care for, and help the earth, and why it is important to take care of our planet.  The children even learned a new word, “pollution.”  The class was introduced to the concepts of reducing, reusing, and recycling.  The children learned what things you can recycle, and how it is different than just throwing things in the trash and sending it to the dump where it takes a long time to break down.  The class learned that recycled materials, from plastic, glass, paper, and metal, are used to make new materials.

The children repurposed a variety of materials, including painting with watercolors on scraps of newspaper and making puzzles out of cereal boxes.  The children were also introduced to a new sorting activity where they sort items into whether they should be reduced (like water), reused (like clothes), or recycled (like paper).

The Z story this week was titled, “Have a Good Day” and discussed how it feels to do kind things for others.  The children talked about how it feels good when they do something kind for a friend or when a friend does something kind for them.

Have a great weekend!
