Dear Forest families,
We had a busy, fun week in Forest switching our dramatic play stations into fairytales! We collected props and rearranged our classroom to include our new stations: Jack and the Beanstalk, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and the Three Little Pigs.
We discussed what we know about fairytales through setting and characters that typically feature entities such as, dwarfs, dragons, elves, fairies, giants, gnomes, goblins, mermaids, talking animals, trolls, unicorns or witches and usually magic or enchantments. The children really seem to enjoy acting out and taking turns playing new characters!
This week’s focus was learning about reptiles. We learned:
- Reptiles are cold blooded, which means they rely on heat from their surroundings to warm up.
- They are vertebrates (animals with backbones).
- They have dry skin, covered either with scales or horny plates.
- Reptiles breathe using lungs.
- Most species of reptiles eat other animals and plants.
- They lay eggs on land to breed.
- Reptiles alive today include lizards, snakes, tortoises, turtles, crocodiles, and alligators.
Music – We had fun singing into a microphone! The children waited patiently for their solo and found it silly to hear their voice amplified.
A peek into next week – Amphibians! And we will be treated to the dress rehearsal performance of the River students spring performance on Tuesday morning.
Have a great weekend!
