April 13

Hello Forest families,

We had a wonderful, busy, sunny week! As a reminder, please check your child’s cubby for a sun hat and for missing items that may have ended up in our lost and found pile.

This week– The children had fun learning about amphibians! There are several characteristics but all share:

  • Have a back bone and are considered vertebrates
  • Are cold-blooded, which means they are unable to regulate their own body temperature
  • Spend part of their lives in water and on land
  • Do not have scales but have permeable skin, which means that molecules and gases can pass through it and brightly colored amphibians have poisonous skin
  • Have gills for at least part, or all, of their lives
  • Undergo metamorphosis, which means their bodies are transformed from their larval stage to their mature, adult stage

Amphibian fun this week included lessons on parts of the frog, frog drawing lessons, a frog’s life cycle, measuring how far we could jump if we were a frog jumping 20 times our body length on the playground, and a visit to kindergarten to visit their classroom frog.

Artist – Claude Monet

Claude Monet is a french artist who was one of the first to paint in a style known as impressionism. Monet loved to paint pictures outside in the open air that capture moments in time.  To capture time he had to work very quickly, using quick, gestural brushstrokes of paint that gives movement to the painting.

Some of his most famous pieces we learned about were a Bridge Over Water lilies, Saint Lazare train station, Garden at Sainte-Adresse, Houses of Parliament, Grainstack at Sunset, and Women in the Garden.

Music – The children listened to different bird calls and learned the words to Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree.

Spanish– The children are learning the names of clothing.
