April 20

Hello Forest families,

This week – In celebration of Earth Day on April 22nd we discussed that Earth Day may only come but once a year, but it is our duty to protect our planet everyday.

The children had wonderful ideas on how to keep our earth healthy and clean. Below are a few ways we discussed as a class that we thought we could practice everyday.

  • Conserving water by using only what we absolutely need. Ideas we discussed were turning the water off while we brush our teeth, turning the water off while we scrub our hands with soap, and watering plants with water from our water bottles at the end of the day.
  • Conserving energy by turning off lights, T.V.’s when not in use.
  • Recycling items to reduce waste in our landfills.
  • Reuse items that we no longer need. We discussed how we can donate old toys and clothing to donation centers, a sibling or a friend. We also discussed clever ways to reuse something that may be considered trash, like making planters out of old plastic containers or making art out of items in our recycling.
  • Planting a tree to keep our air clean and to provide shade in the summer to keep our homes cool.
  • Keeping our air clean by sharing rides, taking public transportation, walking and riding our bicycles to reduce traffic and use less fuel.
  • Being an earth warrior by picking up litter left behind by someone else.

Art – We painted a lovely version of Claude Monet’s Japanese Footbridge with crayons and water colors.

A peek into next week- Friendship and gardening.

Have a Wonderful weekend!
