Hello Garden and Mountain families,
In honor of Earth Day this Sunday, our theme this week was the earth. The children sang “The Earth is Good to Me”, “We Got the Whole World in Our Hands” and “Mr. Sun.” During small circle the children Good Night Colorado, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, In the Woods, and Colorful Garden.
For large motor activities this week, the children climbed on large climbing mats. The children also enjoyed chasing after bubbles blowing on the playground. All the children also had the opportunity to go on a nature walk around the neighborhood
For art this week the children colored with crayons inside the classroom and they spent time coloring with chalk on the sidewalk outside. The children also created a special Earth Day mural with blue and green paint, glue and dandelions picked off the playground.
The children engaged in a few different sensory activities this week. First they explored leaves and grass. Then later in the week they explored dirt and sand. And during music class with Ms. Kathleen this week, the children played jingle bells and danced with scarves.
Continuing with our theme of earth and appreciation for the outdoors, here is an article from NAEYC on the benefits of playing outside with your child:
