Dear River Families,
This week in River we celebrated Earth! The children discussed how they can do their part in keeping Earth clean and celebrating Earth day, every day! We went on an Earth Day nature walk and checked items off a list that we found. We also assessed how our neighborhood is doing with littering and keeping the community clean. Later in the week we went back out into the neighborhood with gloves on and collected trash outside of our school. The children made a mini book about recycling and garbage. Centers this week included defining earth day words (ex. compost, recycle, pollution) and discussing how we can reduce and reuse.
This week in math we continued subtraction. We defined math vocabulary (ex. take away, cross out, subtract, minus) and acted as animals to visualize subtraction story problems. The children learned about verbs and discussed actions that they can do! They completed a Being a Writer about food! This is a non-fiction writing about a food of their choice. They spent time brainstorming and making lists of what they know about this food and then used their list to write about it. We continued to explore wood and paper by answering questions about the properties of wood.
Our next and final field trip will be to the Wow! Museum on 5/24. The children will pack a lunch, partake in a workshop on wind and explore the museum! This is a special end of the year field trip and we would love 2-3 parent chaperones for this event. Please let me know if you are interested!
Conferences begin 4/30 and Earth Project shares continue next week.
Have a great weekend,
Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Lauren
