April 27

Dear River Families,

This week in River we continued working on time and counting by 5’s on the clock. The children have enjoyed using their own clocks to make different times and working on reading the clock to identify what time it is. Time is an interesting concept for children this age and we discussed time and what it means, the history of calendars and clocks, and began basic lessons on reading a clock. In our math books the children worked on counting coins and number families 11-20.  We will complete our final Jr. Great Book next week  as we wrap up a big poetry unit about, “Magical Places”. The children completed a writing that I saved as a writing sample to compare to the same prompt they completed at the beginning of the year.

The children worked on interview questions and “wh-“ words (who, what, when, where, why, which).  They asked one another questions. Built the words with the moveable alphabet and wrote down questions to ask me! Ms. Susan worked with the students with various Spanish songs and Jeopardy-type games. Ms. Kathleen worked with individuals on the metalaphones and began practicing graduation songs. Ms. Charlotte worked with the children on sewing beautiful hearts during peace lesson and using their imagination to create a peaceful city.

I have 3 volunteers for the field trip in May! Thank you!

Next Monday we have conferences! I am looking forward to meeting with all of you.

Have a great weekend,

Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Lauren
